    Cuban Sandwich

Is there any sandwich that fills the soul like a Cuban sandwich? Probably not. While most people will enjoy the tasty treat on a semi-frequent basis, National Cuban Sandwich Day is the perfect time for hungry participants to show the humble, yet heroic creation the love and attention it deserves - and there are a lot of reasons to love it.

The Cuban sandwich is truly one of those magical foods that can be enjoyed by anyone (dietary needs aside) at any time. Whether it is a budget-friendly lunchtime meal for labourers or an evening treat for a business owner, there is never a bad time to enjoy the sandwich. However, there is the best time to appreciate it and that is National Cuban Sandwich Day. If you are a pork lover, no sandwich can compete with the almighty Cubano sandwich.

Roast pork layered with ham (yes, that is two kinds of pig), Swiss cheese, pickles and yellow mustard make for an addictive combo on its own, but when you heat it up, it becomes a pressed sandwich like no other. The sweet ham and crusty bread become addictive when smothered with tangy mustard and loaded with pickles. If you are planning to have just one half, you may want to reconsider, because once you start, you won't be able to stop.

    Ingredients :

    • 2 sections Cuban bread, split open horizontally (8 to 10-inch)

    • 4 tbsp yellow mustard

    • 170g sliced Swiss cheese

    • 170g thinly sliced dill pickles

    • 220g sliced honey ham

    • 170g leftover Cuban-style roast pork

    • 115g sliced Genoa salami

    • 2 tbsp butter

    Serves : 2

    Cooks In : 15 min

    Difficulty : Easy

    Preparation Method :

    1. Preheat the Nea Magic pan over medium heat.
    2. Lay bread, open side up, on a work surface and spread the bottom and top halves with mustard.
    3. Layer the bottom and top halves with Swiss cheese.
    4. Work only on the bottom halves and layer on all of the pickles, ham, roast pork and salami.
    5. Close sandwiches and pressing gently.
    6. Melt half of the butter in the magic pan and add sandwiches.
    7. Use a second pan to press on them as the first side crisps.
    8. When crisp, flip sandwiches, add remaining butter, swirl to coat, and continue cooking while pressing until crisp on both sides, about 10 minutes total.
    9. Slice sandwiches in half diagonally and serve immediately.

    Tips :

Cuban bread is a soft white bread made with lard. If unavailable in your store, use any not-too-crusty, soft white rolls, preferably with some lard or fat baked into them. Salami is a traditional ingredient in Tampa-style Cuban sandwiches but can be omitted.
